	In the book, Schlunegger describes his main character, twenty-one-year-old Corporal Schuller: “Herman is average in height, build, and education. His eyes were a bright blue, and his gaze was wide open and steadfast. His smile gave a certain whimsy to his expression and girls liked him at a glance. Even so, his feeling of mediocrity led him to brag occasionally about girls he had not kissed or adventures he had not had.”
	The Model: Schlunegger describes Angelina Bianci. “Her eyes were big, set wide. She had long, narrow brows and a trim nose with tiny nostrils. Her lips were full and moist but finely bowed and expertly painted. A faint smile played about them. Herman was usually good with ages but the best he could do with this beauty was: Younger than thirty, because of her fine skin; older than twenty because of her poise while she was stopping traffic. And because of her easy way of moving and talking, and the way she could wear simple clothes and make them look like they cost a fortune … Not a day past twenty-six.
