Novel Idea By Times Staff Writer Gerard MacCrossan page 1 2 3 Kerrville Daily Times (Front Page), January 24, 2003. (Hans Schlunegger photo by Times Chief Photographer John Schmid). More than 40 years ago, Hansueli Schlunegger had an idea for a story. Several decades later, while driving to Phoenix from his Kerrville home, the idea reappeared. Five years later, his first novel “All’ Acqua” became a reality. “I had the story in my mind in the mid 1950s,” said Schlunegger, who moved with his wife Annemarie to the United States from Switzerland in 1959. “For about a year, the story was in my head. I thought I’d write it down.” But he never did, and it disappeared as the young couple moved to Seattle, then Houston, finally settling in Kerrville with their three children in 1969. Like all Swiss men, Schlunegger spent a compulsory period in the Swiss Army, although he opted not to make it a career. “There are elements of truth in the story,” he said, of the action-filled tale. The town of All’ Acqua exists and historical events are used. >> more >> |
